GatEvo ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your personal data is handled in accordance with the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and other applicable laws.

This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, how we store it, and how you can exercise your rights.

By using GatEvo hardware, software or services ("Services"), you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect data to operate the system, provide features, maintain safety and improve performance.

  • Call-to-Open authorised numbers
  • AI Assistant preferences (Pro+ only)

1.2 Device Information

GatEvo devices send essential operational data, such as:

  • Device serial number
  • Hardware and model version
  • Firmware version
  • Connection type (Wi-Fi/Ethernet/LTE/BLE)
  • I/O configuration
  • Device health indicators

1.3 Access & Usage Data

We store event logs for safety, security and diagnostics:

  • Gate/garage open/close actions
  • Access Link usage
  • Call-to-Open logs
  • Input triggers (photocells, safety edges, PIRs)
  • Output activations
  • Automation routines
  • Error conditions
  • Installer diagnostic actions

Event data ensures greater security and helps installers diagnose issues.

  • Crash logs
  • Diagnostic telemetry

1.5 Pro+ AI Assistant (Optional)

If you enable the AI Assistant, we may process:

  • Call audio for recognition
  • Extracted commands
  • AI response logs

Audio is processed only to provide the feature, and not for marketing.

1.6 Location Data

The GatEvo mobile app may request access to your device's location (precise and/or approximate) in order to provide the following features:

  • Geofencing / proximity automation: Automatically open or close your gate or door when you arrive at or leave a defined geographic area (e.g. your home address).
  • Location-triggered routines: Execute automation rules based on your proximity to the device location.
  • Network region detection: Associate your device pairing with the correct regional infrastructure for improved connectivity.

Important details regarding location data:

  • Location access is optional — core features work without it.
  • Location data is used only to deliver the above features and is never used for advertising or marketing purposes.
  • Location data is never sold, rented or shared with third parties except as required to operate the geofencing feature (e.g. on-device OS APIs).
  • Where background location access is used (e.g. for geofencing while the app is closed), this is disclosed at the point of permission request within the app.
  • You can revoke location permission at any time via your device's Settings › Apps › GatEvo › Permissions.

We process location data on the legal basis of your explicit consent, which you may withdraw at any time without affecting your use of core GatEvo features.

2. How We Use Your Data

We process data for:

  • ✔ Service operation: To control gates, doors, lighting and automation.
  • ✔ Safety: To ensure photocells, safety edges and inputs behave correctly.
  • ✔ Diagnostics: To help installers and support staff troubleshoot issues.
  • ✔ Communication: To issue Access Links, Call-to-Open numbers and system messages.
  • ✔ Account management: To maintain user roles, permissions and device settings.
  • ✔ Security: To prevent misuse, unauthorised access or fraudulent actions.
  • ✔ Improvement: To enhance reliability and add new features via OTA updates.
  • ✔ Location-based automation: To trigger gate or door actions based on your device's proximity to your property, when location permission has been granted (optional feature).

We never sell your data to advertisers.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

We process your data under the following lawful bases:

For optional features like:

  • AI voice processing (Pro+)
  • Call-to-Open telephone number provisioning

For safety compliance and fraud prevention.

4. Data Sharing

We may share data with:

  • 4.1 Telecom Providers (Pro Feature): To generate UK local numbers and handle call routing.
  • 4.2 AI Providers (Pro+ Feature): To process voice commands securely.
  • 4.3 Cloud Hosting Providers: To operate the GatEvo cloud service.
  • 4.4 Installers (If You Approve Access): Installers see diagnostic information only when you grant permission.
  • 4.5 Location Data: Location data is processed on-device or via your device's operating system APIs (e.g. Android Geofencing API). It is not transmitted to or stored on GatEvo servers beyond what is strictly necessary to trigger automation events.

We never sell, rent or trade your information.

5. International Data Transfers

Your data may be stored in:

  • UK-based data centres
  • EU-based data centres

Both locations fully comply with GDPR. We do not store data in countries without adequate GDPR protection.

6. Data Retention

We keep:

  • Event logs for a reasonable operational period
  • AI voice logs (Pro+ only) for the minimum time needed
  • Diagnostic data for troubleshooting
  • Account data until your account is deleted
  • Location data only for the duration required to process a geofencing event; it is not retained long-term

You may request deletion at any time.

7. Your Rights (Under UK GDPR)

You have the right to:

  • ✔ Correction: Fix inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • ✔ Erasure: Request deletion ("right to be forgotten").
